A one day itinerary to London's must see attractions

London is a huge metropolis and a global capital of culture, fashion, finance, politics and trade. There is plenty to see and do, but if you only have one day to explore the city’s delights and want to visit key attractions, this suggested itinerary is your answer.

London Eye
Start your day slowly with a full English breakfast before heading for Waterloo and the River Themes to visit the magnificent London Eye. At 135 meters this is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe and offers spectacular views of the large and captivating city of London.

The Clock Tower (Big Ben) and Houses of Parliament
Walk across the river and you’ll reach renowned landmark the Clock Tower - the world’s largest four-faced, chiming clock" which is often referred to as Big Ben, the nickname of the Great Bell housed within the Clock Tower. The Houses of Parliament, also known as Westminster Palace, is a spectacular World Heritage Site building well worth admiring before you move on.

Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch and situated in walking distance from Big Ben. Take a leisurely stroll around the gardens or have a peek inside if you are visiting at the right time of the year. The Changing of the Guard ceremony is unfortunately not held every day and very difficult to schedule.

Trafalgar Square and National Gallery
Walk to Trafalgar Square, the scene of many demonstrations and dominated by a 44 meter statue of Horatio Viscount Nelson as well as a large number of ferocious pigeons - and pop in to the National Gallery. Allow yourself at least an hour to admire eight centuries’ worth of beautiful creations.

Covent Garden
Walk across to Covent Garden where you can pick up gifts and original souvenirs at the Jubilee Market, enjoy a colourful street performance and grab a bite to eat. Covent Garden has a wide variety of food outlets to suit any taste and budget.

Madame Tusseauds
Give your feet a rest and catch the tube to Baker Street and the famous Madame Tusseauds wax museum - a must see for any first time visitor to London. Highlights include the Chamber of Horrors, which is the home of many notorious figures such as Jack the Ripper.

Oxford Street and Hyde Park Speakers' Corner
Get ready to indulge yourself; with over 300 shops Oxford Street is Europe’s busiest and arguably best shopping street. But don’t get too carried away as you want to end up at the north east corner of Hyde Park ??" where you can be enthralled by a public speaker or let off some steam yourself at the celebrated Speakers' Corner.

Dinner and Theatre
Head back to your hotel for a well-deserved break before getting ready for a posh dinner and a magical musical in a London West End Theatre - don’t forget to book your favourite show well in advance. Afterwards you can pop into a London nightclub or a jazz bar for a bit of dancing, or pass out in your hotel bed at the end of a long but exciting and eventful day.
